Recovery of the 3 diamonds and gold

Our client brought us a poor quality white gold ring whose rhodium plating, as it wore off, revealed a grey/yellow gold alloy (read this article to learn more about yellowing gold) as well as an old pair of earrings from which she had lost the butterfly clasps.

As you can see from the photo the diamonds are dirty and the white gold is of poor quality (under the rhodium it appears yellowish).

The diamonds are then set aside and the gold melted down to be used in the creation of the ring.

We notice our client’s jewel in the crucible, a plate of fine gold and pieces of alloy that will give its color to the white gold, colored white in the mass.

The design of the ring

The design is that of a simple ring which tapers at the top to accommodate a 5mm main diamond of 0.45ct accompanied by two smaller 3.4mm diamonds of 0.15ct each.

Note that the diamonds in question have defects, in particular one of the small diamonds is chipped. This defect is hidden at the time of assembly under a claw.

Since diamonds have good cut quality, this does not affect their brilliance.

Once the design is finalized, we can start production in the workshop.

This is followed by the finishing touches of deburring and polishing the ring before setting the diamonds into place.
