Men are generally more likely to wear gold signet rings than gold signet rings the bracelets in solid gold.
However, because they wear little jewelry, when choosing a gold bracelet, they generally choose a large 18K solid gold bracelet.
This is the case of this two-gold men’s bracelet project, composed of 18-karat yellow gold and white gold, which we had the opportunity to create in our goldsmith’s workshop.
It is a flexible bracelet made up of 8 large links, which are in turn linked together by 8 smaller links.
This is a relatively large piece, as the bracelet is 10 millimeters wide for a total gold weight of 65 grams for a length of 20 centimeters.

The peculiarities of this bracelet project were:
- it was to be made of 18k yellow gold and white gold
- made to the customer’s design
- made with gold supplied by the customer
- the closure had to be as discreet as possible

The design of the bracelet
Knowing exactly what our customer wanted made it even easier for us to meet their needs and estimate the cost of producing the jewelry.

We still had to do CAD modeling to estimate the gold weight of the bracelet.
Measuring the circumference of the wrist, as explained here, is essential in order to set the length of the bracelet which will allow us to evaluate the final gold weight of the bracelet.
The latter is 10 millimeters wide and 2 millimeters thick. Each link is made up of two pieces, a solid yellow gold frame receiving an 18k white gold insert, soldered to the first.
The supply of gold
Our preliminary study revealed that the bracelet would weigh approximately 65 grams.
Our client had 79 grams of 18k gold from old jewelry that he wanted to recycle for his project.

The reclaimed gold includes a white gold hollow chain and various 18k gold jewelry and bars
The gold is recycled to obtain a large gold nugget of 23.5 carat purity, visible in its crucible during the last melting phase, in the following photo.

This gold is then remelted to produce smaller ingots which will be used to make the different coins.

Making the gold bracelet
If this project uses digital modeling in the design phase, the bracelet is entirely made manually on the jeweler’s workbench.
Preparation of solid gold pieces
The previously obtained fine gold is mixed with other metals to obtain 18 karat yellow gold in one case and 18 karat white gold in the other.

The 18 karat gold obtained is then rolled to obtain metal strips that will be cut.

This view shows the three stages of manufacturing a rectangular 18k yellow gold plate that will be used to make a link in our bracelet.
These plates are then brought to the required dimensions and then filed in the central part to make room for the white gold insert.

We proceed in the same way to make the white gold inserts and the small yellow gold links.
The links are then drilled to prepare them for assembly, like a zipper.

This results in a batch of parts ready to be assembled.

The white gold inserts are then adapted to the yellow gold links.

Assemble the bracelet links
Once all our parts have been prepared, we can proceed with the assembly of the different parts by welding.

The links are then folded one by one to give them the curvature of a closed bracelet.

We can now proceed to the blank assembly tests of the hinge pins between our different links.

We note the hinge axles, made with 18k yellow gold wire passed through a drawing machine
When the fits are good, the hinges can be welded into place.

The excess of the board that protrudes is cut and then filed flush.
This photo shows our bracelet taking shape before finishing and making the clasp.

After the polishing operations we can admire the final result.

Finally, we tested the final weight of the bracelet for a target weight of 65 grams, we did well but we were lucky because it is always very difficult to find the exact target weight for such a heavy gold project.
