Modern style rings feature simple designs with clean shapes, meant to be timeless. These rings are the opposite of the baroque rings you can see on Pinterest with complicated and overloaded designs.
In this case we will present you the same style of modern ring available in two versions, the first with two blue sapphires and the second with a single ruby.
We will present you step by step the creation of this design produced in our laboratory and present the very different rendering of the same concept available in two versions.

Here’s a look at other modern ring designs made in our jewelry workshop.
A clean design
The genesis of this ring project comes from a bespoke ring project for women that combines modernity, a timeless solid ring and sapphires.
We therefore created a simple ring whose upper part perfectly frames the width and height of the two sapphires, the latter finding themselves set in the metal of the ring body.

A ring model available with a single ruby
This design is easily modified to replace the two sapphires with a single ruby while maintaining the same design for the body of the ring.
Creation of the digital model
As with every new project, the design study is carried out using a digital model which allows us to clearly see the final appearance of the ring.
And since our client was undecided about which color of gold would best match the ruby, we were able to take virtual photos of both versions of the ring, in 18k white gold and 18k yellow gold.

We see in these views that compared to the initial model, the body of the ring has been refined in the lower part and widened in the upper part, allowing the ruby to be well protected.
The weight of the gold then increased slightly, going from 8 grams to around 10 grams.
Workshop production
Once the design was fixed and the choice of yellow gold was made, we were able to print the ring in wax using 3D printing. Several hundred layers of 50 micron thick resin make up our ring master.

This wax master is then used to create a refractory plaster mold into which our molten yellow gold is then poured. The steps to create such a mold are summarized in this video.
Description of the creation of a mold for the lost wax casting process
This manufacturing process, called lost wax casting, allows us to obtain the body of our ring in 18k yellow gold as can be seen below in its raw state after leaving the foundry.

Finishes
This is followed by the polishing and setting operations of the ruby to give the ring its definitive appearance and shine.

The ruby ring is filed after casting, the file allows us to remove the rough edges of the metal due to the casting process, an essential step before polishing
