18K White Gold Large Diamond Engagement Ring

Whether for an engagement or to celebrate a wedding anniversary, the diamond ring is the most sought-after jewel for this type of occasion.

In the case presented here, it is the personalized creation of a ring with a large oval main diamond set on a ring with three bands, which are in turn set with round brilliant diamonds.

The weight of the main diamond is 1.7 carats while the brilliants on the ring amounts are 1.6mm, for a total weight of 0.75 carats.

The total diamond weight of the ring is therefore 2.45 carats.

The drawing

Our client knew what they wanted, there was little iteration in the design development, our job was to give shape to our sponsor’s ideas.

Our ring design is first modeled in 3D and built around the main diamond.

The digital model then allows us to take photos of our virtual ring to validate the final rendering of the project with the customer.

This step allows us to consolidate the design of the project without ambiguities or omissions from each party, and after validation of the project, we can move on to the metallic production of the ring.

The large 1.7 carat diamond

The ring is designed around the main diamond, oval in shape and of good quality.

The latter is of F color, SI2 clarity and has a good cut quality, important for the brightness of the diamond, despite the impurities indicated on the certificate (this article on the diamond certificate will be useful to you).

The case of this diamond perfectly illustrates how it is possible to choose a diamond well.

Lack of knowledge about diamond grading criteria and their impact on its brilliance pushes many buyers to compete for the best criteria, thus rapidly increasing the price of their diamond.

However, for those who know how to evaluate the impact of clarity and cut quality on the fire of the diamond, it is then possible to choose diamonds with some minor defects (such as the impurities of this large diamond visible to the eye from certain angles) that go completely unnoticed.Cu in the middle of the diamond foci (due to the quality of the cut).

This allows you to buy diamonds with a very beautiful finish much cheaper than perfect diamonds that the untrained eye cannot distinguish from others.

Make the ring

Once the customer’s design and the diamond in our possession have been validated, we can create the ring, initially through 3D printing, then in white gold.

The 3D impression

The ring master is printed in resin using a 3D printer from the digital file previously validated by the customer. This step takes a few hours and allows us to obtain our ring compliant with the drawing with an accuracy of 30 microns (or 0.03 mm).

The casting process

It is through the lost wax casting process that we then obtain our ring. The wax master is used to make a refractory plaster mold which, once dry, will be burned, destroying the master.

The molten gold is then poured into the mold, filling the now hollow cavity of the master.

Setting and finishing

The ring is then finished and prepared to receive the brilliant diamonds from the body of the ring.
