Men’s necklaces are generally larger and heavier than women’s gold necklaces. The creation presented here is that of a fairly large and therefore relatively heavy 18k gold men’s necklace.
With a total length of 60 centimeters and a weight of approximately 40 grams, it is a masculine model made of links in the shape of hangman’s knots.
This original design is very different from the classic chain designs you are used to seeing in jewelry stores.

Here is an overview of other 18k gold chain necklaces with or without gold pendants produced in Italy our jewelry workshop:
The principle of chain links
A few months ago we had already created a very similar necklace in 18k gold, the detailed production history of which can be seen here.
In the case of this project, the chain links were different, as shown in this photo, but the manufacturing principle remained the same.

Knitted in the shape of a hangman’s knot, the thread has the appearance of a rope
It is a shirt made with doubled gold thread and then twisted giving it volume before making it take the shape of a hangman’s knot.
Making the gold thread
The work begins with the creation of a bar-shaped gold ingot. The gold is first heated to the melting point, once liquid, it is poured into a channel-shaped ingot mold to obtain a small bar-shaped gold ingot:

This bar is then stretched by passing it through a rolling mill, then stretched until a wire is obtained that is fine enough to work with.

18K yellow gold wire was passed through the die to give it the correct diameter for this project
Making the necklace links
Once our wire is ready and at the right diameter, it is twisted to give it the look of a rope, as shown in this photo.

Gold wire imitating a rope will be used to make the links of the chain
The twisted wire is then cut and shaped to make the central part of the links around which another piece of twisted wire is then wrapped and welded into place.

Enamelling and then finishing
The links are then finalized by wrapping a thread around them to represent a knot, then assembled together and finally the necklace is polished.
